Electronics & Power Supply Refurbishment
for vacuum coating systems

When a power supply, controller, or vacuum coating electronic assembly has become unreliable, obsolete, unstable, or repeatedly repaired, YTI refurbishes it from the inside out. Our in-house electronics lab rebuilds high-voltage e-beam supplies, DC and RF sputtering power supplies, sweep and emission controls, ion-source electronics, thermal source controls, and legacy process instrumentation so the unit returns clean, calibrated, load-tested, documented, and ready for service.

When repair is not enough

Refurbishment for aging, obsolete, and mission-critical electronics

A single repair can fix a known fault. Refurbishment goes deeper. It is the right path when the unit is aging, drifting, intermittently failing, difficult to calibrate, damaged by heat or contamination, or too important to production to keep running on patched electronics.

YTI evaluates the full assembly, not just the failed part. We inspect boards, connectors, relays, capacitors, cooling components, high-voltage sections, output stages, control loops, interlocks, and instrumentation. Then we rebuild what is worn, repair what is damaged, replace age-sensitive parts, recalibrate the unit, and test it under realistic operating conditions before it returns.

Refurbishment is especially valuable for discontinued and legacy vacuum coating electronics, including power supplies and controls that are no longer supported by the original manufacturer. If the problem is a specific fault only, start with electronics & power supply repair. If the electronics are only one part of a larger coating problem, start with vacuum coating troubleshooting & field service.

Signs it is time to refurbish

Problems refurbishment is built to solve

Refurbishment is the best fit when the unit still has value but reliability has started to fall. These are the issues YTI is often called in to correct before they become repeated downtime events.

Repeat Failures

The same unit keeps coming down, or new faults appear after each repair, pointing to aged components or deeper system wear.

Output Drift & Instability

Voltage, current, sweep, emission, rate control, or feedback response drifts out of spec and is difficult to bring back into calibration.

Arcing Under Load

High-voltage supplies, e-beam controls, and source electronics arc, trip, or shut down when real process load is applied.

Obsolete or Unsupported Units

Legacy electronics with discontinued boards, unavailable replacement parts, or no factory support can often be rebuilt or replaced by YTI.

Heat, Contamination & Aging

Dust, heat, process contamination, weak fans, aging capacitors, and brittle wiring are corrected before they trigger the next failure.

Intermittent Board Faults

Hard-to-repeat faults, thermal failures, connection issues, and unstable control behavior traced, repaired, and verified.

What is included

A deeper rebuild than a standard repair

Every refurbishment is scoped around the unit, its age, condition, and role in your process. The goal is to restore dependable performance, not simply clear one alarm.

Disassembly & Cleaning

Internal inspection, cleaning, contamination removal, connector review, wiring checks, and documentation of visible wear or damage.

Aged Component Replacement

Age-sensitive components such as capacitors, relays, fans, wiring, connectors, and weak power-stage parts replaced as needed.

Board-Level Rework

Damaged traces, solder joints, board faults, control circuits, and output-stage problems repaired at the component level.

Calibration & Control Verification

Outputs, setpoints, control loops, sweep behavior, emission response, and interlocks verified and calibrated to support stable operation.

Load Testing & Burn-In

The refurbished unit is tested under realistic load conditions, then verified for stable operation before it ships or goes back online.

Documentation & Warranty

Each refurbishment is documented with findings, corrective work, test results, and recommendations to extend service life.

From unstable to verified

How electronics refurbishment works

Step 01

Evaluate

Tell us the unit, fault history, process symptoms, and urgency. We review the condition, support status, and whether repair or refurbishment is the better path.

Step 02

Refurbish

The unit is opened, cleaned, inspected, repaired, and rebuilt. Age-sensitive parts, damaged components, weak connections, cooling issues, and board faults are corrected.

Step 03

Test & Calibrate

Outputs, setpoints, interlocks, feedback loops, and operating behavior are verified. The unit is load-tested so it is proven before it returns to your chamber.

Step 04

Document & Support

Every refurbishment is documented and warrantied, with notes on the work completed and recommendations to prevent future downtime.

Depot refurbishment at our Ashford, Connecticut electronics lab is ideal for deep rebuilds, obsolete electronics, and units that need controlled bench testing. For production-critical systems, YTI can also provide on-site troubleshooting and emergency response within 48 hours. See full service details →

Electronics & power supply refurbishment FAQs

What is electronics and power supply refurbishment?
Refurbishment is a deeper rebuild than a standard repair. YTI evaluates the full unit, cleans and inspects it, repairs board-level faults, replaces aged or weak components, recalibrates outputs and controls, load-tests the unit, and documents the work before return.
When should I refurbish instead of repair?
Repair is best for a specific fault. Refurbishment is better when a unit is aging, repeatedly failing, drifting out of calibration, difficult to support, obsolete, contaminated, heat-damaged, or critical enough that patched repairs are no longer acceptable.
What vacuum coating power supplies do you refurbish?
YTI refurbishes e-beam high-voltage power supplies, DC and RF sputtering supplies, sweep and emission controllers, glow-discharge and ion-source supplies, thermal and resistance source controls, and vacuum coating instrumentation.
Do you refurbish e-beam high-voltage power supplies?
Yes. We refurbish high-voltage supplies and emission controls for electron-beam sources, including single-hearth, multi-hearth, and Ultra Source configurations. We address arcing, emission instability, high-voltage faults, aging components, and calibration issues.
Do you refurbish DC and RF sputtering power supplies?
Yes. We refurbish DC and RF sputtering power supplies for magnetron and diode cathode systems, including supplies with output instability, strike problems, matching or control faults, overheating, and repeat reliability issues.
Can you refurbish obsolete or discontinued electronics?
Yes. Legacy and discontinued vacuum coating electronics are a strong fit for YTI. When factory support is no longer available, we can often rebuild the existing unit, repair the boards, replace aged components, or fabricate a compatible replacement.
What parts are replaced during refurbishment?
The scope depends on the unit and condition, but commonly includes aged capacitors, relays, fans, connectors, weak wiring, damaged board components, output-stage parts, cooling components, and control or feedback components that no longer test within spec.
Is the refurbished unit tested before it ships?
Yes. The unit is calibrated and tested under realistic operating conditions whenever possible. YTI verifies output, setpoints, interlocks, feedback response, and stability so the unit is proven before it returns to service.
Can you refurbish on-site, or does the unit need to be shipped?
Most deep refurbishment work is best performed at YTI’s Ashford, Connecticut electronics lab where the unit can be opened, cleaned, rebuilt, calibrated, and load-tested. For production-critical systems, YTI also provides on-site troubleshooting and field service.
How fast is electronics refurbishment turnaround?
Turnaround depends on the fault history, unit condition, parts availability, and testing requirements. Remote triage starts the same day you call, and YTI’s in-house lab and stocked components help keep turnaround as short as practical.
Is refurbishment warrantied?
Yes. Refurbishments are documented and backed by a warranty. You receive notes on what was found, what was repaired or replaced, and recommendations to help prevent future failures.
How do I request a refurbishment quote?
Call (860) 429-1908, email sales@ytionline.com, or use the contact page. Include the unit make, model, photos if available, fault history, and whether the equipment is currently down so YTI can recommend repair, refurbishment, replacement, or on-site service.
