Verify the Surface. Verify the Vacuum.

Two instrument families that answer different but equally important production questions

Profilometers verify what happened on the part. A stylus travels across the sample and converts vertical motion into a measurable profile that can be used to evaluate step height, film-thickness differences, surface features and roughness.

Helium leak detectors verify whether the vacuum boundary is sound. They help technicians find leaks in chambers, valves, feedthroughs, welded assemblies, piping and components so a system can reach and maintain the pressure required for the process.

This page is the equipment hub. It explains instrument families, accessories, measurement chains and connected applications. Model-specific Dektak service, instrument repair, rentals, preventive maintenance and vacuum troubleshooting remain on their dedicated YTI pages.

Answers

Profilometer and helium leak detector FAQs

What equipment is covered on this profilometers and leak detectors page?
This equipment hub covers stylus surface profilometers, measurement heads and styluses, sample stages and fixtures, instrument electronics and data systems, helium mass-spectrometer leak detectors, probes, calibration leaks, test fixtures and related vacuum connections.
Is this the Dektak repair and rental service page?
No. This page explains the equipment families, measurement chains and connected applications. Use YTI’s Dektak Sales, Service and Rentals page for model-specific field service, in-house repair, preventive maintenance, replacement parts, refurbished instruments and rental availability.
Which Dektak models does YTI support?
YTI’s published Dektak capabilities include the original Dektak line, Dektak II through Dektak II D and Dektak 3030 instruments. Support for a specific instrument depends on condition, configuration, parts availability and the work required.
What can a stylus profilometer measure?
A stylus profilometer traces a surface to characterize step height, film thickness differences, surface profile, roughness and related dimensional features. The result depends on the stylus, force, scan length, sample setup, calibration and analysis method.
What is a helium mass-spectrometer leak detector used for?
A helium leak detector helps locate and quantify leaks in vacuum chambers, components, welded assemblies, feedthroughs, valves, piping and other sealed hardware. The test method, pumping arrangement, calibration and background helium conditions affect the result.
Can YTI help diagnose a vacuum leak even if the leak detector is not the problem?
Yes. If the instrument is operating but the chamber still will not hold vacuum or pump down correctly, YTI can review seals, flanges, feedthroughs, valves, piping, pumps, chamber hardware and test setup through its vacuum troubleshooting and field-service pathway.
Does YTI offer profilometer parts and rental instruments?
YTI’s published Dektak support includes styluses, lamps, monitors, thermal plotters, thermal paper, calibration standards, replacement parts, refurbished instruments and weekly rental units, subject to current availability.
What should I send for an instrument review?
Send the manufacturer, model, serial number, instrument photos, controller and computer details, error messages, symptoms, recent calibration or service history, accessories, sample or test requirements, required timeline and whether production or inspection is currently stopped.
