One vacuum heritage · two names · multiple equipment generations
Independent support for Varian and Agilent equipment—from high-vacuum pumping to leak detection
Varian nameplates remain common on installed diffusion pumps, helium leak detectors, gauges and controllers. Agilent acquired Varian in 2010, and current vacuum products and documentation are generally presented under the Agilent name. For equipment owners, the result is often a facility containing several generations of Varian and Agilent hardware connected to the same chamber or production process.
This manufacturer page identifies the equipment families and support paths YTI can review. It does not replace YTI’s focused service pages. Use those pages for complete diffusion-pump refurbishment, field troubleshooting, electronics work, mechanical-pump service, preventive maintenance, component stocking, fabrication or equipment replacement.

Symptoms are starting points—not final diagnoses
Common Varian and Agilent faults and performance concerns
Poor Ultimate Vacuum
Higher base pressure may involve chamber leaks, contamination, damaged jets, insufficient heat, incorrect fluid, cooling problems, high backing pressure, valve leakage or gauge error.
View diffusion-pump refurbishment →Slow Pump-Down
Longer cycles can result from outgassing, leaks, restricted conductance, backing-pump wear, valve timing, heater output, pump contamination or process changes elsewhere in the system.
Start system troubleshooting →Heater or Warm-Up Problems
Open elements, incorrect voltage or wattage, damaged terminals, poor platen contact, contactor faults or failed thermal protection can prevent proper vapor-jet formation and throughput.
Review Varian replacement heaters →Backstreaming or Contamination
Oil migration may involve pump fluid, baffle or cold-cap condition, cooling, operating pressure, startup and shutdown sequence, jet cleanliness, chamber geometry or process load.
Review common pump fluids →Weak or No Helium Response
A leak detector that does not respond correctly may have inlet restrictions, calibration problems, analyzer contamination, internal vacuum faults, valve issues, probe damage, electronics faults or a degraded reference leak.
Explore leak-detector equipment →High Background or Unstable Calibration
Persistent helium background, drift or repeated calibration failure can result from contamination, trapped helium, leaking test hardware, vacuum-module issues, roughing-pump condition, detector electronics or test procedure.
View electronics and instrument repair →Gauge or Controller Faults
Incorrect readings, missing channels, failed setpoints, display problems, communication faults or unstable pressure signals can disrupt pump sequencing, leak testing and process decisions.
View controls and sensor upgrades →Legacy Equipment Reliability
Obsolete boards, unavailable displays, aging valves, wiring changes, incomplete documentation and repeated repairs may require coordinated refurbishment, stocked spares or replacement planning.
